Annual Literacy Luncheon

 

2009 Literacy Luncheon

Please join us on June 1, 2009 for Pulitzer Prize Winning reporter and author David Mariness' Keynote Speech at our Fourth annual Literacy Luncheon.

A Madison native and UW graduate, Maraniss is now the Associate Editor at the Washington Post and the winner of multiple awards as both a reporter and an author. He will discuss how individuals have triumphed against the odds and also speak to the importance of literacy in our community.

Maraniss has written several best selling books including Lombardi: When Pride Still Mattered; They Marched Into Sunlight - War and Peace, Vietnam and America, October 1967; and Clemente: The Passion and Grace of Baseball's Last Hero. His latest book discusses the 1960 Olympics in Rome, and his next effort is a biography on Barack Obama which is due in 2011.

The Literacy Luncheon is held at the Italian Community Center. Registration and networking starts at 11:30 am. The program starts at noon and the event will conclude by 1:15 pm.
