3 EASY STEPS TO TUTOR

In order to start tutoring, volunteers are required to first complete:

1. A 60-minute volunteer orientation
2. A 90-minute tutor observation*
3. Training in desired program area of choice

Training requirements for each program vary:

Adult Basic Education reading program (A.B.E.)
Two 2-hour trainings taken in sequence, plus an additional "refresher" once tutoring has begun.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
One 1.5-hour training

GED Preparation
One 2-hour training

Functional Literacy
One 1-hour training per individual program component (i.e., computer literacy, financial literacy, and/or workforce readiness)

Visit our Events Calendar for details of upcoming training sessions and luncheon briefings.

*The 90-minute tutor observation is not required to tutor in the Functional Literacy program. Tutors for Functional Literacy are encouraged to make a 4-week commitment.

A.B.E. reading program, ESL, and GED classes are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in 90-minute sessions, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Dates and times for Functional Literacy classes are subject to change based on tutor and student availability.
