LSW History

In September 1965, through the devoted efforts of a small group of Milwaukee businessmen, LSW was born. These volunteers led the effort to alleviate illiteracy based on the model of a champion in the literacy movement, Dr. Frank Laubach. Laubach spent time in numerous other countries learning and training people to read and write. Laubach’s reading model, “Each One, Teach One,” which was used by LSW for decades. In 2010, LSW will celebrate its 45th year, having served thousands of students in need through the efforts of thousands of trained and devoted tutors.
