John Augoki, a student at Literacy Services of Wisconsin, came to the US from Sudan. He, his mother, brother and sister fled their village to escape the war. As John puts it, “Everyone around us was dying.” John made his way to LSW in 2007, hoping to learn to read and speak English. A year later, LSW helped John become a  citizen – he is now on his way to getting a GED and then will be off to college.
