LSW provides a variety of volunteer opportunities in support of our mission. Our greatest need is for tutors. LSW’s comprehensive orientation and training process includes:
Volunteer inquiry via phone, email or website
Invitation to a volunteer orientation – a 90 minute session to familiarize potential volunteers with the issue of literacy, our agency and our programs
The volunteer decides to commit and chooses a program to work in (adult basic education (reading and spelling), G.E.D or ESL)
Volunteer observes tutor/student sessions
Volunteer receives training in program area and begins to tutor
Tutors are consistently supported by staff who are always on site for questions and resources. Trainings are regularly scheduled to insure volunteers are well prepared and comfortable as tutors.
